On February 22nd, a significant event took place at the Comfy Hotel in Eldoret, Kenya, aimed at addressing the lack of adequate recognition, protection, and empowerment of women with disabilities in Kapseret Sub County, Uasin Gishu County. This initiative sought to equip women with disabilities with the knowledge and tools necessary to assert their legal rights and navigate the legal system effectively.

The event featured discussions led by a renowed Advocate of the High Court Ms Patrcia Kirui who provided an overview of disability rights laws in Kenya. Emphasizing principles of equality and non-discrimination, the sessions covered a wide range of topics, including access to education, employment, healthcare, and the importance of accessibility in public spaces. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations about protections against violence and abuse, legal capacity and decision-making, entitlements to social welfare benefits, and available legal aid and advocacy resources.

The event served as a crucial platform for women with disabilities to gain valuable insights into their legal rights and entitlements. By empowering them with knowledge and information, we are working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society where all individuals, regardless of their abilities, have equal access to justice and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
